A study in humans demonstrated that the LINC02335 is a long noncoding RNA down-regulated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with major depressive disorder, with its expression showing a significant negative association with suicide risk, being markedly lower in patients with suicidal ideation and past suicide attempts compared to controls [Cui et al. A forensic review subsequently identified the LINC02335 as one of several differentially expressed lncRNAs in blood from MDD patients, highlighting its potential application in forensic cause of death analysis for cases of depressed suicide [Lei et al.
