Forensic Context

A study in humans demonstrated that the lnc-METTL22-2 is down-regulated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of patients with major depressive disorder and its expression shows a significant negative association with suicide risk, being markedly lower in patients with suicidal ideation and past suicide attempts compared to controls [Cui et al. DOI:10.1002/brb3.711]. A forensic review further identifies the lnc-METTL22-2 as a biomarker of suicidal ideation in MDD patients, supporting its potential application in cause-of-death analysis [Song et al. DOI:10.1007/s00414-023-03091-1].
