Summary

This gene produces alternatively spliced long non-coding RNAs. These RNAs were observed to be upregulated in tumor cells and positively correlated to expression of the SRY-box 2 gene. Overexpression of these transcripts may promote cell proliferation. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2017]

Forensic Context

A study in human postmortem brain tissue identified the long noncoding RNA SOX2-OT as being upregulated in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex of subjects with opioid use disorder compared to non-psychiatric controls [Mendez et al. DOI:10.1038/s41380-021-01259-y].
