Predicted to be involved in positive regulation of gene expression. Predicted to act upstream of or within with a positive effect on cardiac right ventricle morphogenesis. Predicted to act upstream of or within transcription elongation by RNA polymerase II. Predicted to be located in chromatin; cytoplasm; and nucleoplasm. A review of single-cell RNA sequencing in the heart identified the HAND2-AS1 as a long non-coding RNA that regulates the expression of the transcription factor Hand2 to orchestrate heart development [Yamada & Nomura DOI:10.3390/ijms21218345]. A consensus statement on long non-coding RNAs further notes that the HAND2-AS1, also known as Upperhand, orchestrates heart development through the regulation of precise Hand2 expression [Mattick et al. DOI:10.1038/s41580-022-00566-8]. A review of long noncoding RNAs in cardiovascular diseases noted that the HAND2-AS1 is involved in cardiac development and functions in reprogramming cardiac fibroblasts into cardiomyocytes by upregulating the expression of HAND2 [Chih-Fan Yeh et al. DOI:10.1186/s12929-020-00647-w].
